Incoming 9th – 11th Grade Summer Reading

The purpose of summer reading assignments is to continue skill practice and to enhance reading comprehension beyond the school year.  These assignments promote academic thinking and support the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for English/ Language Arts at the high school level.  When students return to school for the fall semester, they should have completed the summer reading guides, written the essays if applicable, and have prepared themselves to complete assignments/ tests associated with their assigned level novel. 

 

Students Entering 9th Grade – To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

All Students must complete the assignment packet (pdf) that accompanies the novel.

** Pre-AP students must also complete the essay (pdf) that accompanies the novel.  The assignment prompt and rubric are attached. 

 

Students Entering 10th Grade –   Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
