]]>OA Students Compete in FLL Robotics Competitionhttp://www.odyssey-academy.com/home/2011/12/13/oa-students-compete-in-fll-robotics-competition.htmlOdyssey Academy2011-12-13T16:18:32Z2011-12-13T16:18:32ZFive students from OA's 7th & 8th Grade robotics elective competed in the First Lego League South Texas Robotics Competition at Clear Brook High School over the weekend. The five students competed against 26 other schools in three categories: Robot Programming, Teamwork, and Project Presentation.

The students have been preparing for this contest over the past several weeks during their robotics elective class by building and programming the robot to navigate an obstacle course in order to score points, and researching and designing a project that would address the problem of improving food's safe delivery to consumers. For the research project, the students settled on developing a method to ensure fish were free of toxic chemicles, such as benzyne, prior to ingestion by humans.

Over the course of four hours, the students competed in three robot programming rounds, presented their research project, and competed in the teamwork challenge. At the end of the day, the team found out they won First Place in the Teamwork Challenge and they would be moving on to the next round of competition, the Lone Star FLL Championship Tournament on January 7, 2012. Congratulations to the team!

Also, thank you to the team's coach Mr. Fuller, and parents Mrs. Gomez and Mr. Mulvaney for attending the competition with the students.

    Join Odyssey Academy this Thursday, December 8th, for "Odyssey Academy Spirit Night" hosted at the League City Chick-fil-A from 5:00 - 8:00pm. The League City Chick-fil-A is located at: 1640 FM 646, Dickinson, TX 77539. The restaurant is located by Target and Home Depot off of I-45.

    This fundraiser will benefit the 7th/8th grade trip to Washington D.C. Chick-fil-A will donate 20% of ticketed sales from the evening to Odyssey Academy. After making your purchase, write, "Odyssey Academy," on the receipt, and place it into the box at the register.

    • ]]>    OA to Host Math Competitionhttp://www.odyssey-academy.com/home/2011/12/2/oa-to-host-math-competition.htmlOdyssey Academy2011-12-02T16:32:14Z2011-12-02T16:32:14ZThe East Texas Regional Math Competition will be held Friday, December 2nd, right here at Odyssey Academy! The math competition will include students ranging from 7th through 12th grade from 17 different charter schools.

    Each team is composed of six students and one coach. OA's coach is Mr. Canon. The six students who will be representing OA are: Franz Torres, Benjamin Ramsell, Chelsey Millina, Neida Martinez, Lawrence Zepeda, and Cassie Halverson.

    The top four teams will progress to the state competition. Good luck to all of the schools and teams competing!
