Arrival and Dismissal Procedure

Hello Odyssey Families!

Over the past two days arrival and dismissal has continued to improve as we all adjust to the new procedures. As you may have noticed, we still have the same arrival and dismissal times, however our arrival and dismissal traffic patterns have changed some this year. Please make yourself familiar with the new arrival/dismissal diagram.

Highlights for arrival and dismissal are:

Arrival

  1. Please use the right hand lane for arrival. When reaching the U drop-off area, please pull all the way around against the curb. This will allow us to unload as many students as possible in the shortest amount of time. After your student exits the vehicle, the inside (left) lane is available to exit the drop-off area. Please enter this lane carefully, as other vehicles may be exiting behind you.
  2. If you prefer to park and walk your student to the school building, please use the sectioned off lot that can be entered from 61st Street. The entrance closest to the Pre-K - Third grade building is the entrance to the walk-up lot. Please do not park and walk-up from the parking area that is used for normal drop-off. Parking and walking from the normal drop off area is a safety hazard.
  3. When travelling through the school's parking lots, please use patience, courtesy, and be safe (watch your speed, please do not be on your cell phone). We are doing our best to safely and efficiently get 750 students into the building. This cannot be done without everyone working together.

Dismissal

  1. Please arrive for your student's dismissal as close to the actual dismissal time as possible. Later dismissals mixing with the earlier dismissals causes issues with getting students loaded and vehicles back on the road quickly.
  2. Please ensure you are aware of which lane you should be in. Both lanes are used for dismissal. The right lane is for Pre-K, Kinder, Fourth, Sixth, and Seventh grade dismissal. The left lane is for First - Third, Fifth, Eighth - Tenth grade dismissal.
  3. Again, when travelling through the school's parking lots, please use patience, courtesy, and be safe (watch your speed and please do not be on your cell phone). We are doing our best to safely and efficiently get 750 students out of the building. This cannot be done without everyone working together.

Odyssey Academy Begins Using SchoolReach Contact System

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In our effort to improve communication between parents and school, effective March 24, 2014, Odyssey Academy is implementing a telephone broadcast system called SchoolReach that will enable school personnel to notify all households and parents by phone within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that causes early dismissal, school cancellation or late start.  The service may also be used to communicate general announcements or reminders using telephone, text messaging, and email. Odyssey Academy will continue to report school closings due to weather on local television and radio stations in addition to this system.

When used, the service will call all phone numbers in our contact lists and will deliver a recorded message from a school administrator. The service will deliver the message to both live answer and answering machines. No answers (phones ringing over 40 sec.) and busies will be automatically retried twice in fifteen minute intervals after the initial call.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1) This requires NO registration by the parent.

2) All information and contact numbers are strictly secure and confidential and are only used for the purposes described in this letter.

Here is some specific information you should know:

  • Caller ID: The Call ID will display 409-750-9289, which is the main number for Odyssey Academy.
  • Live Answers: There is a short pause at the beginning of the message, usually a few seconds. Answer your phone as you normally would; “hello” and hold for the message to begin. Multiple “hellos” will delay the message. Inform all family members who may answer your phone of this process.
  • Answering Machines: The system will detect that your machine has answered and will 
    play the recording to your machine. The phone will ring for up to 40 seconds. Make sure that your machine answers after four rings or you may miss the message.
  • Message Repeat: At the end of the message you will be prompted to ‘press any key’ to hear the message again. This is very helpful when a child answers the phone and hands it to a parent, who can then ‘repeat’ the message in its entirety.
  • You will be notified each day that your child misses class. To minimize these calls, make sure to inform the school when you KNOW your child will miss classes on a given day.

What to do if you think you’ve missed a SchoolReach voice message.

If you ever feel you may have missed a SchoolReach voice message or just want to check to be sure, you can dial the Message Retrieval Line.  From whichever phone(s) you want to check for messages to, dial toll-free: 855-955-8500 and follow the prompts to hear any/all messages sent through SchoolReach over the last 30 days.  Please contact the school if you suspect your phone number is not being called by the system or if you ever have a change of number.

Enrollment for 2014-2015 School Year

 

Our enrollment for the current school year is going great, and it is already that time to begin looking forward to enrollment for the 2014-15 school year!

For current students:  We sent home the enrollment confirmation form on January 28, 2014.  Please complete it and return back to the teacher by February 7.

For students new to Odyssey Academy for grades PK-3 through 10th grade:  Open enrollment will begin on February 3 and extend until the open enrollment drawing date which is March 27. Prospective parents must submit an enrollment request for their student(s) in order to be eligible for the lottery drawings.
